Eat a balanced diet that includes lean protein, boneless chicken poultry, whole cereals, legumes, reduced milk, fish, steelhead, and salmon as well as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. Limit salt added sugar and saturated and trans fats. It is advised that people with high blood pressure or individuals who are at risk—African Americans, people with kidney disease, and people using medication for hypertension—limit their intake of salt to 2300 mg per day and 1500 mg per day, respectively.
Deal with Stress
The anxiety can be reduced with exercise and adequate rest. Alternately, try setting aside 15 minutes each day for silent reflection. You can cope by doing activities you enjoy and relying on relatives and friends for assistance.

All of the medications you are taking should be discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Even things you think are “safe,” like pain relievers or cold medicine, can elevate your blood pressure.
